Nanette van Schelven Government Manager 2022
On November 22, Nanette van Schelven, Director-General of the Customs administration of the Netherlands (Customs), was crowned Government Manager of the Year. This happened during the presentation of the Overheidsawards. Customs is very pleased with this award and therefore we are proud of our Director-General. Customs was also one of the three finalists for the Best Government Organisation. That award went to WerkSaam Westfriesland.
Pioneering administrator
Social problems do not respect the boundaries of government institutions. Collaboration and innovation are important, especially in a period of crises. That has become apparent in recent times. The Government Manager of the Year 2022 is someone who tries to meet the demands of society together with other organisations. The jury came to the conclusion that Nanette van Schelven is this year’s ‘pioneering administrator’. That is the reason why on this evening, in the Koninklijke Schouwburg in The Hague, she received the award from Hanke Bruins Slot, Minister of the Interior and Kingdom Relations.
Jury chairman and King’s Commissioner in the province of Drenthe Jetta Klijnsma talks about Nanette van Schelven: “She is committed to all employees at Customs. She knows all of them, and all the employees know her. She knows what’s going on in the organisation. And let that be the reason for the focus she brings to her management. By watching and listening, she not only puts herself, but also her management style, at the service of the organisation. In short: truly pioneering .” In her acceptance speech, Nanette emphasises the importance of working together: “You can't do this work alone. We work with the people with whom Customs cooperates. With the business community, colleagues from the ministry, colleagues who are on the border. This award is for all of us.”
