Director-general
Nanette van Schelven (1965) has been the director-general of the Customs Administration of the Netherlands since 2020.
"Customs is the border service. We protect the Netherlands and Europe and ensure that fair trade is possible. The meaning of ‘border’ has changed a lot in the last 10 years. Consequently we prepare ourselves accordingly in order that we are ready to change as required. We do this by cherishing what we are good at and innovating as necessary. I’m honoured to lead such a wonderful service."
Prior to becoming the Director-General, Nanette was General Director of the Customs Administration of the Netherlands, which at that time was still a part of the Tax and Customs Administration for a further two years. Before joining the Customs Administration, she spent eight years at the Immigration and Naturalisation Service in various management roless. From 2002 to 2010, Nanette was an MT member and Deputy Director of Legal Affairs at the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature Management and Food Quality. Nanette studied Law at Leiden University from 1983 to 1988.
